Competitor's Information

Eligibility | Responsibilities| Coaches | Uniform & Equipment |

Eligibility: All competitors must be currently enrolled in either a 2 or 4 year college/university as a full time student. Proof of enrollment in the form of a student ID and proof of current college registration (online printouts accepted) must be included with registration. Student ID or picture ID must also be presented at match card pick-up / weigh-in.

Competitor Responsibilities: It is the competitor's responsibility to know the rules and be ready for competition when called to do so. If the competitor is not at his/her ring ready to compete when competition begins, he/she will not be able to compete. If a competitor leaves the ring after the competition begins and is not present when his/her name is called to compete, his/her name will be called three times at ringside. If he/she is still not present to compete, he/she will be disqualified.

Coaches: Each competitor will be allowed one coach. Coaches will have access to the competition floor only when accompanying a competitor three (3) matches prior to the competitor's match. Coaches and competitors must leave the competition floor immediately after their match ends. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior on the part of the coach or competitor may result in disqualification and expulsion or both.

Uniform and Equipment Guidelines: Competitors must adhere to Olympic style uniform and sparring gear requirements. This includes a white v-neck uniform e.g. dobok (black trim for black belts only), chest protector (hogu), forearm pads, shin pads, white commercially bought or soft taped insteps, protective cup, mouthpiece, white or matching red/blue headgear and gloves. Competitors with uniforms or equipment which deviate from these guidelines will not be allowed to compete.

Competitors must wear USAT/WTF-approved open-finger gloves, and either USAT/WTF-approved foot protectors or foam, cloth, or vinyl instep pads but not both.  Forearm guards with hand protectors attached are not allowed. Head gear, gloves, and foot protectors can be white, red, or blue, and, if not white, must correspond to the color of the chest protector.  If both foot protectors and gloves are worn, they must be of the same color (white, red, or blue), and so, for example, one cannot wear blue gloves and white foot protectors at the same time.

A competitor must also wear a properly-fitting chest protector with the red or blue scoring zone that wraps around and covers the entire back except the spine of the athlete in the valid scoring area.  Discretion will be given to individuals with extreme body proportions
